Prerequisite for Accessing Plugins

Accessing and using ChatGPT plugins is a feature available exclusively to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. Users on the free tier do not have access to this functionality. A paid subscription is required to enable the plugin feature and utilize the plugin store.

Steps to Enable Plugins

Once a ChatGPT Plus subscription is active, the plugin feature needs to be enabled within the settings.

1. Navigate to Settings: Locate the settings option within the ChatGPT interface. This is typically found by clicking on the user's account name or icon.
2. Find Beta Features: Within the settings menu, look for a section often labeled "Beta features" or similar. Plugins were initially a beta feature.

Using Installed Plugins

With plugins installed and the plugin-enabled model selected for a chat, ChatGPT can automatically use the relevant tools based on the conversation's context.

1. Ensure Plugin Model is Active: Verify that the "GPT-4 (Plugins)" or equivalent model is selected for the current chat.
2. Select Active Plugins: Below the model selection, a space appears showing installed plugins. Click on this area to manage which installed plugins are active for the current conversation. Users can select up to three plugins to be active simultaneously for a single chat session.
3. Type Prompts: Interact with ChatGPT as usual. If a prompt can be better answered or acted upon by an active plugin, ChatGPT will determine which plugin to use.

   • Example: Requesting information from a specific website might trigger a browsing plugin.
4. Observe Plugin Usage: While processing a prompt, ChatGPT will often indicate that it is "Using [Plugin Name]" before providing the response. This shows which plugin was utilized.

• Only selected plugins (up to 3) from the user's installed list are active for a given chat session.
